The choice between polyurethane foam and steel piers depends on whether you are looking for a surface-level lift or a permanent structural solution. While both address settlement, they serve very different purposes:

  • Polyurethane Foam Injection: This method, often called slab jacking, is a fast, non-structural solution for leveling minor settlement (typically less than 2 inches) in interior slabs, sidewalks, or driveways. It cures in about 15 minutes and is effective for filling voids, but it does not provide long-term structural support for heavy loads.
  • Steel Piers (Helical or Push Piers): These are the industry standard for permanent foundation underpinning. Our steel piers transfer the building’s weight past unstable surface soils down to competent bearing strata or bedrock. They offer a superior load-bearing capacity of over 100 tons per pier, compared to the under-20-ton limit of foam.

When to choose steel piers:

We recommend engineered steel systems for perimeter foundations, load-bearing walls, and any commercial structures where structural stability is mandatory. While foam has a lower initial cost, steel piers provide a permanent solution backed by ICC-ES documentation and ISO-certified quality. This ensures your foundation remains stable even in expansive clay or high-moisture soils that often cause temporary solutions to fail.
